OU vs Texas bet… I lost.

Yesterday was the long-awaited OU vs Texas game. About a month ago I promised Brian that I would watch it with him, cook food for the event, and that he could invite people over to enjoy the thrilling rivalry. Yesterday morning we woke up with everything ready to go. I made Spicy Black Bean Chipotle Dip and beer marinated bratwurst with onions, bought two flavors of ice cream and some chocolate chip cookie dough (which I forgot to put in the oven), and made sure we had coffee ready to make for the 4th quarter when the food would settle and everyone would need a burst of energy.
As Brian and I were in the kitchen preparing everything, I told him that I really thought OU was going to win. I believe that rankings are null and void when big rivalries take place, and I thought that OU would pull through to win it. Brian wanted OU to win, but he didn’t really think they were going to pull it off. After a few seconds of light arguing, we decided to put a wager on it. We decided that if OU won, he would have to cook me a 4 course fancy dinner next weekend, and if Texas won I would have to cook for him. Either way I was fine with the outcome, because for me it would be a fun challenge to think of some wonderful food to make for him, and if he lost I would be happy eating anything he made for me. It was really a win, win.
Well… I lost the bet. OU lost by 3 points after a valiant effort. Now I am browsing cookbooks and websites trying to decide what I’m going to make for my husband next weekend. I need to pick an appetizer, soup or salad, entree, and dessert. I want each part of the meal to be something that I have never made before, and I also want it to be something that I think he will truly like, and not something that I think just sounds good or I want to make because it looks like it has some fun culinary techniques. I want the meal to be all about Brian.
First I have to think about what Brian likes. I know he loves bacon, tomatoes, and strawberries and that he isn’t a huge fan of salad. He likes salad, but it’s definitely not something he picks very often. He likes things that he grew up eating, but he also likes new twists and trying new things. He does not like mushrooms at all, onions very much, or things where broccoli is the primary ingredient. I can’t think of a region that he stays away from as far as types of cooking are concerned.
So, if there any suggestions I’m open to them. I will be searing this week so let me know if anything really exciting comes to mind.
